Important Information about Mediation

Mediation is a process wherein the parties, or the court, select a neutral third party to assist them in reaching a negotiated settlement. The mediator has no power to impose a settlement, instead providing insight and perspective based on prior legal experience. The process is private, informal and non-binding unless all parties agree to the resolution in writing. All communications to the mediator are confidential and privileged, unless permission is obtained to reveal those communications.

Our office provides mediation services in San Antonio and surrounding areas, with large, comfortable conference rooms to accommodate the parties, as well as virtually through Zoom. Alex Katzman has been successfully mediating cases in many areas of law, and at all stages of litigation, since 2007 and works hard as a neutral to resolve matters in an efficient, cost-effective manner. Alex utilizes his vast experience trying cases to juries – representing plaintiffs and defendants, individuals and companies, employees and employers – throughout South Texas since 1993. Please contact our office with any questions and help with scheduling. We look forward to working with you to help resolve your legal matter.

Fee Schedule
Full day (8 hours) $1,700.00 per party
Half day (4 hours) $850.00 per party
The process of mediation seems to work best when all parties have shared in the payment of the mediation fee. Our policy is to provide mediation services at a reasonable cost. In fact, the cost to each party is less than each party would spend on costs and attorneys’ fees for a deposition of corresponding amount of time. All parties represented by the same attorney are considered a single “party” for purposes of the mediation fee. All fees are payable prior to the commencement of the mediation.

Time and Duration
A typical full-day mediation begins at 9:30 am, includes a working lunch and continues until completed. While most sessions conclude by approximately 5:30 p.m., a session may extend into the evening. Half day mediations also typically begin at 9:30 am and conclude by 1:30 pm, or begin at 1:30 pm until 5:30 pm. Weekends are available for mediation if requested by the parties or required by scheduling limitations. If the mediation session occurs on a weekend, a supplemental charge of $200 – $400 will be allocated amongst the parties for support staff overtime and building HVAC costs.

Mediation Fee
The mediation fee includes:

• Scheduling and administering the session;
• Any pre-mediation conferences;
• Preparing for and conducting the mediation session;
• Conducting the post-session telephone facilitation and correspondence as needed;
• Refreshments for all present; and
• Lunch for all present (full day only).

Cancellation or Rescheduling Policy
A cancellation or rescheduling fee is charged only if the mediation is canceled or rescheduled within five (5) days of the scheduled mediation date. In such event, a $500.00 fee is charged to the party or parties canceling or rescheduling the mediation. If a party fails to appear without notice, the party will be charged the full mediation fee for the scheduled time of the mediation.
